Udaipur “the city of lakes ” has been a favorite shooting spot for Hollywood and Bollywood movies. Even though it kept appearing in Bollywood movies since 1965 ( Dev Anand starer Guide) Udaipur shot to international fame with the Roger Moore starer ” Octopussy” in which he plays the fictional character James Bond. It was mentioned as the birth place of “Bagheera the panther” in Ruyad Kipling’s The Jungle Book( spelled as Oodepore)

History of  Udaipur

  1. Udaipur was founded by the Rajput King Udai Singh II in 1558
  2. The city was established as capital of Mewar kingdom
  3. In 1567 Maharana Udai Singh built a six kilometre long city wall, with seven gates to protect the city from Mughal invasion
  4. Mewar became a pricely state of British Empire in 1818
  5. Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan when India gained independence in 1947

Air:- Maharana Pratap Airport,is a small domestic airport situated in a satellite town about 20 kilometres from Udaipur. Daily flights connect Udaipur with major cities in India.

Train:-Udaipur City railway station and Rana Pratap Nagar railway station are two railway stations in Udaipur.

Udaipur lies on the intersection point of East West CorridorGolden Quadrilateral, National Highway (NH) 76 and National Highway (NH) 8, midway between Delhi and Mumbai. Udaipur is located around 700 kilometres from either city
