Chembra Peak

Standing at 2100 metres above sea level, it is the highest peak in Wayanad and a very popular trekking destination. You can also see a heart shaped lake en route to the peak. The scenic view from the peak itself is worth going on the trek.

 

Lakkidi View Point

Often referred to as the “Gateway to Wayanad”, this view point is one of the most popular spots for tourists and those just passing through Wayanad. It is the perfect place to take a photograph as it gives a scenic view of lush greenery, small hills and hairpin bends that lead down to Wayanad all from above the clouds. It is one of the most beautiful views of a journey to Wayanad.

 

Banasura Sagar Dam

Nestled at the foothills of the Banasura Hills, this dam is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest earthen dam in Asia. It is a popular destination for traveling with families with children or friends as there are several activities such as boating and trekking available set amidst the lush green hills surrounding the water. It is also the ideal picnic spot.

 

Meenmutty Falls

Located near the Banasura Sagar Dam and the perfect destination for adventurers and trekkers is the Meenmutty Falls. It is a picturesque and spectacular 1000 feet waterfall located in a dense forest area. It is accessed by a trek through dense forests, where you may be able to spot wildlife, and a small trail over boulders. You will be able to experience stunning views of the valley beneath from above the waterfalls. Swimming or relaxing in the pool is the best way to get the complete experience of visiting the waterfalls.

 

Pookode Lake

This freshwater lake, located in an evergreen forest and surrounded by greenery, is a popular tourist destination for boating and picnic activities, making it an ideal destination for families with children. A unique species of fish called ‘Pethia pookodensis’ can only be found in this lake. You may also spot other animals and birds in the forest surrounding the lake.

 

Edakkal Caves

The Edakkal Caves are natural caves located in Wayanad and are a must visit destination for the history buffs. It is one of the oldest human settlements discovered in India and the carvings and writings on its walls date back to 6000 BC. Some researchers even link the findings in the caves with the Indus Valley Civilization.

Wayanad is best accessed by road, with National Highway 766 (NH 766) connecting it to cities like Bangalore, Mysore, and Kozhikode. Government and private buses operate regularly, while well maintained roads make it an enjoyable drive for those traveling by car or bike.

The best time to visit Wayanad is from October to May, when the weather is cool and comfortable, making it perfect for trekking, wildlife spotting, and exploring the region’s natural beauty. The monsoon season, from June to September, with mist-covered hills and vast greenery is also ideal for those who enjoy the rain and want to experience Wayanad at its most lush.
