Pahalgam is located in the western part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a popular tourist destination and hill station with lush green meadows and pristine waters

History

For cwnturies Pehalgam was an unoticed hilly region where nomadic tribes gazed their cattles
It was a part of Kingdom of Kashmir
The famous Avantipur Temple was established by Maharaja Avantivarman who ruled from AD 855-883,
The town remained independent even during the British era and later on was a part of independent India.

How to reach there

Air

The nearest airport is in Srinagar. From there, you can reach Pahalgam by bus or taxi. The airport is well-connected to several cities in India, such as Delhi, Jammu, Leh, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Amritsar, etc. There are no direct international flights, so tourists from abroad can make use of the international airports at major cities in India and then board a connecting flight to Srinagar.

Rail

Udhampur railway station located around 218 km away is the nearest station to Pahalgam. Limited trains are available till date up to Udhampur. However, number of trains connect Jammu Tawi station with rest of India including Delhi, Kolkata, Pathankot, Amritsar on daily basis. Another major railway station is the Jammu Tawi Station, located 285 kilometers away.

Road

A well laid network of roads connect Pahalgam with rest of Kashmir Valley. It is 89kms away from Srinagar
