History of Munnar

1. Munnar was a silent tribal settlement under Poonjar Raja
2. In 1790 Duke of Wellington was sent here to stop Tipu Sultan at Kumily which started European footfalls at Munnar
3. The first tea sapling was planted by A.H. Sharp at Parvathi, part of the present Sevenmullay estate which spurred the tea plantations here
4. John Daniel Munroe was the person who show cased Munnar to the world during 1870s
5. In 2017 Munnar was selected as ” Best Destination for Romance” by Lonely Planet
