History of  Kumarakom

1. Initially Kumarakom was ruled by the Thekkumkoor royal family
2. In later part of 19^th century an Englishman Henry Baker purchased the land from Raja of Travancore who ruled it 
3. Henry Baker built a grand home there
4. In 1962 that property was sold to Taj group and they converted it into a resort
5. Kumarakom village became first village in Kerala to launch responsible tourism practices in 2008
