On the foothills of world’s highest free standing mountain marathon is conducted annually. One of the aims of this events is promote Tanzanian tourism. There will be 42.2 kms marathon. 21.1 kms half marathon and 5 kms fun run. Moshi where the marathon is held is 442 kms away from Daar Es Salaam.

History of  Kilimanjaro Marathon

1. The marathon was started in the year 2002
2. It has official backing of Tanzanian Tourist Board, Athletics Tanzania and International Association of Athletics Federations
3. The villagers started coming out to see what was happening in the Sunday morning and curiosity turned into excitement over the years followed
4. The previous years witnessed more than 12,000 runners taking part in different categories
5. The total prize money was increased to approximately $13,660/- ( TSH 31,550,000)
