Novruz or Novruz Bayrami is the official celebration of new year and coming of spring season in Azarbaijan. Its a celebration rooted in Mithraic and Zoroastrian religious believes.Baku is the central of the Novruz celebrations. During Novruz season people do house cleaning, plant trees, make new dresses, paint eggs, and make national pastries  . Baku Iis famed for its medieval walled old city, which contains the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a vast royal complex, and the iconic stone Maiden Tower. Contemporary landmarks include the Zaha Hadid–designed Heydar Aliyev Center, and the Flame Towers.

History of  Novruz celebrations at Baku

  1. The foundation of Nowruz to the mythical Iranian King Jamshid
  2. During the period Azarbaijan was part of Soviet Union, the celebration of Novruz was unofficial and prohibited
  3. Now Novruz is treated as an official public holiday in accordance with Article 105 of the Labor Code of Azerbaijan passed in 2006, 
  4. When Baku became capital city, it became center of Novruz celebration
