Sabarmati Ashram visit was the first thing in itinerary of US president Donald Trump’s visit to India on 24/02/2020. Sabarmati Ashram was home to Mahatma Gandhi from 1917 until 1930 . The self relience and nn violence which were two main principles Mahatma Gandhi advocated , were practised here. Now Sabarmati Ashram receives around 700,000 visitors a year.

History of  Sabarmati Ashram

1. Mahatma Gandhi started an Ashram at Kocharab Bungalow in 25th March 1915
2. Later it was relocated to an area near Sabarmati river on 17 June 1917
3. Mahatma Gandhi lived here during the period when he was not travelling across India
4. On 12^th March 1930 Dandi March started from here. He vowed that he will ot return to Ashram until India becomes independent
5. A museum ( Gandhi Samarak Sangrahalaya) was built on request of Late Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on 1963 by the famous architech Charles Correa
