The Carnival of Venice  is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy. The Carnival ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday , the day before Ash Wednesday. The festival is world-famous for its elaborate masks.

History of  Venice Carnival

1. It’s said that the Carnival of Venice was started from a victory of the Venice Republic against the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrico di Treven in the year 1162
2. This festival became official in the Renaissance
3. Under  Emperor of Austria, Francis II, the festival was outlawed entirely in 1797
4. The modern version was started in 1979
5. Since then, approximately 3 million visitors come to Venice every year for the Carnival
