- According to local myth Kumbalangi was formed during great floods of 1341 CE
- Kumbalangi was earlier part of Edappally kingdom before being captures by Kochi kings
- In 1102 CE Kochi state was formed by breaking up of Kulasekhara empire
- In 15th century Admiral Zheng He’s treasure fleet from Ming dynasty, China arrived Kochi
- In 2003, the Kerala Government selected Kumbalangi as first tourist village
