The world famous backwaters of Kumarakom has attracted thousands of tourists every year. The tranquil waters, houseboats, the abundence of birds all makes it a traveler’s paradise. No wonder the heir of British throne Prince Charles chose this destination to celebrate his 65th birthday in 2013.

History of  Kumarakom

  1. Kumarakom was ruled by the Travancore Royal family
  2. In later part of 19th century an Englishman Henry Baker purchased the land from Raja of Travancore and build himself a grand home
  3. In 1962 the property was sold to Taj group and they converted it into a resort
  4. Kumarakom village became first village in Kerala to launch responsible tourism practices in 2008
