History of Munnar

1. The Muthuvan tribal community were the earliest residents of Munnar.
2. On 8th November , 1817 Ward and his assistant Lt Eyre Connor established at Munnar
3. North Travancore Land Planting & Agricultural Society formed in 1879 started the cultivation of crops, including coffee, cardamom, cinchona and sisal in various parts of the Munnar
4. Eravikulam-Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary was declared by the government of Kerala declared the in 1975 to protect the habitat of the endangered Nilgiri tahr.
5. It became a National Park in 1978.
