The Indian Republic Day parade at New Delhi is the largest and most important of the parades marking the Republic Day celebrations across India. The parade takes place every year on 26 January at Rajpath, New Delhi. It is the main attraction of India’s Republic Day celebrations, which last for 3 days. The parade showcases India’s defense capability and its cultural and social heritage.

History of Republic day parade

Republic day parade started when India became a republic on 1950
Since then celebrations were organized at different venues (like Irwin Stadium (National Stadium), Kingsway (Rajpath), Red Fort and Ramlila grounds)
In 1955 the parade and celebrations shifted to Rajpath
In 2016, French Army soldiers and French Army Band took part in the 67th Republic Day parade.
This was for the first time any foreign army regiment parading at Indian republic day parade
