The Carnival at Santa Cruz de Tenerife is supposed to be the second most popular Carnival in the world after Rio Carnival. It is the largest celebration before lent strating on 19^th February to 1^st March 2020. This carnival is held at Tenerife which is the largest island in Canary Islands, Spain.

History of  Carnival at Santa Cruz de Tenerife

1. Early written references of the carnival at Santa Cruz de Tenerife was recorded in late 19^th century
2. The carnival  was declared a Tourist Festival of International Interest by the Secretary of State for Tourism in 1980
3. Till 1778 masks were used in the Carnival which was banned that year by royal instructions
4. A poster for each year’s carnival will be created since 1962
5. The carnival will be having a theme for each year. In 2019 it was The Marine depth. This year it would be The 50s

1. Take part in the Gala to elect Carnival Queen on the first Wednesday of the Carnival week
2. Witness the parade on the Friday in the first week of Carnival
3. Encourage Murgas ( Spanish Carnival groups) as they perform in the competition
4. Wear costumes of 1950s , roam along the crowd and celebrate with the residents of Tenerife
5. Visit Volcanic craters in Teide National park or Volcanic tube Cueva del Viento
