1. Legends attributes the origin of Theyyam to Lord Parasuram

2. According to archaeologist Raymond Alchin, Theyyam could have originated on earliest periods of Neolithic settlement

3. During Sangam period (6th century BCE to 3rd century CE) the Velan community got prominence in performing Theyyam
