History
- The artists’ colony was established in the 1920s, when Irish theatre artiste and environmentalist, Norah Richards, shifted here from Lahore.
- In 1935, the District Commissioner of Kangra gave Richards 15 acres of land, and the Woodland Estate came into existence
- Noted painter, Sobha Singh, most known for making Sikh religious painting, moved in and stayed here till his death in 1986
