History

1. The artists’ colony was established in the 1920s, when Irish theatre artiste and environmentalist, Norah Richards, shifted here from Lahore.
2. In 1935, the District Commissioner of Kangra gave Richards 15 acres of land, and the Woodland Estate came into existence
3. Noted painter, Sobha Singh, most known for making Sikh religious painting, moved in and stayed here till his death in 1986
