Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It was a significant spice trade center for more than 500 years.
History
1. The city came into existence sometime in the 13th century CE.
2. Ibn Battuta (1342–1347), who visited six times, gives the earliest glimpses of life in the city. He describes Kozhikode as “one of the great ports of the district of Malabar”
3. Vaco Da Gama landed in Kozhikode on 1498
4. The English landed in 1615
5. In 1765, Mysore captured Kozhikode as part of its occupation of the Malabar Coast.
