Ever witnessed 5000 people tying turban together? Well Jaisalmer International Dessert Festival is about lots of amusements like this. Every year during February this festival is organized by Rajasthan Tourism Department with vibrant colours and music in the air.

History of Jaisalmer  desert festival

  1. According to  Hindu mythology Lord Krishna once said to Arjuna that one of the future rulers of the Yadav clan will built his kingdom on the Trikuta Hills . When Rana Jaisal founded Jailsalmer the local people dress in their best costumes and sing folk songs to welcome the festival with open arms and enthusiasm. They wait for this festival as soon as the winter arrives and the adieu the season with a note of celebration of their culture . This could be one event which inspired the ceration of Desert Festival
  2. Jaisalmer was a key stopover to the trade routes to Central Asia, Egypt, Arab and Persia, and this led to several trade fairs and festivals which inspired the Jaisalmer Desert Festival
  3. Since 2017, the department of tourism reinvented the event as Jaisalmer desert festival to attract domestic and international tourists
