.Uluru is a large sandstone rock formation in the  in central Australia .  sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings .

History of  Uluru

1. It is believed that aborigines moved to Uluru 20,000 years ago
2. During the 1870s, William Giles and William Gosse were the first white explorers to this region
3. The area was declared the Petermann Aboriginal Reserve in the early 1900s and this existed until the 1940s.
4. Ayers Rock was created a national park in 1950
5. In 1985 the title to the rock was handed back to the traditional owners who, in turn, granted the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service a 99 year lease on the park.
