Cherai beach is a beautiful long beach lined by coconut trees. It is a part of Vypin island neighbouring Kochi city. This beach is considered a swimmer’s paradise and if lucky enough you can spot dolphins here. Being a part of epic Muziris region, this beach is now one of the most preferred beaches in Kerala.

History of Cherai 

1. The Vypin island was formed in 1341 following a heavy flood and was part of Kochi kingdom
2. The nearby Pallippuram fort was built in 1503 by Portuguese
3. The Dutch captured the fort in 1661 and sold it to the State of Travancore in 1789
4. British defeated the Dutch in 1795 and acquired this area
5. Post Indian independence in 1947 it became part of the state Kerala
